Overview

Dedicated to Guruvayurappan (Lord Krishna as an infant), it is known for its strict rituals, traditional Kerala architecture, and elephant sanctuary.

History

The idol is said to be carved out of Pathanjana stone and was worshipped by Lord Brahma.

Architecture

Classic Kerala temple style with red-tiled roofs, a golden flagstaff (Dhwajasthambam), and massive oil lamps (Chuttuvilakku) adorning the outer walls.

Spiritual Significance

One of the most visited temples in South India. It is famous for conducting a large number of weddings and Annaprasanam (first rice feeding for babies).
