Overview
A monumental Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Jagannath, a form of Vishnu. The wooden idols are uniquely replaced every 12-19 years in a ritual called Navakalevara.
History
Built in the 12th century by King Anantavarman Chodaganga Deva of the Eastern Ganga dynasty.
Architecture
Kalinga architecture with a towering main shikhara (vimana) at 214 feet, topped with the massive Neelachakra.
Spiritual Significance
Part of the Char Dham. The temple kitchen is reputed to be the largest in the world, feeding thousands of devotees daily with Mahaprasad.
