Overview
Built around the 7th century CE in Dravidian architecture. Goddess Parvati is said to have worshipped Shiva here in the form of a peacock.
History
The original temple was submerged in the sea and the current structure was built by the Vijayanagara kings during the 16th century.
Architecture
Features a majestic 37-meter tall eastern gopuram adorned with intricate stucco figures. A large temple tank is situated to its west.
Spiritual Significance
One of the most active and visited temples in Chennai, preserving the ancient culture and traditions of Mylapore.
