Overview
Accessible only by a steep 16 km trek from Gaurikund or by helicopter, Kedarnath is set against the stunning backdrop of the Kedarnath range.
History
Believed to have been originally built by the Pandavas and revived by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century CE. It survived the devastating 2013 flash floods.
Architecture
Built of massive, evenly cut grey stone slabs. A large statue of the Nandi Bull stands in the courtyard facing the shrine.
Spiritual Significance
Part of the Chota Char Dham yatra. It is the highest among the 12 Jyotirlingas.
