Overview
The principal deity Padmanabhaswamy (Vishnu) is enshrined in the 'Anantha Shayana' posture, the eternal yogic sleep on the serpent Adishesha.
History
Mentioned in several ancient Puranas, it gained global prominence in 2011 when vast amounts of gold and jewels were discovered in its underground vaults.
Architecture
It features a beautiful 100-foot tall gopuram. The main idol is made from a special composition called Katusarkara yogam, consisting of 12,008 saligramams brought from Nepal.
Spiritual Significance
One of the 108 Divya Desams. The royal family of Travancore manages the temple as 'Padmanabha Dasas' (Servants of Lord Padmanabha).
