About the Temple
Tiruppaatrurai Adhimooleswarar Temple is an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in Tirupattrurai within the Trichy district of Tamil Nadu. Glorified in the 7th-century Tamil Shaiva canon, the Tevaram, the temple is recognized as a Paadal Petra Sthalam. It houses several historical inscriptions from the Chola era and hosts an annual Brahmotsavam festival that draws numerous pilgrims.

Sacred History
"According to legend, the temple's origins trace back to a Chola king on a hunting trip who shot an arrow into a bush to hit a bird. The arrow instead struck an anthill, causing milk to ooze out from it. That night, Lord Shiva appeared in the king's dream to reveal his divine presence in the anthill, leading the king to establish a temple at the site. The shrine holds great historical and religious significance, having been praised in the medieval Tevaram hymns composed by the Tamil Nayanar saint Tirugnanasambandar. Inscriptions carved into the temple structures document its ongoing history and association with the Chola dynasty. Today, the complex is maintained and administered by the Hindu Religious and Endowment Board of the Government of Tamil Nadu."
